When this commission first started, the collector wasn’t entirely sure what they were looking for. The brief was something like: games, movies, rock, explosions! So a lot of energy and color.
As the conversations continued, the vision kept evolving. New ideas appeared constantly and we changed from action filled explosions to adding more feminine elements. Moving away from just answering the question “what should the painting have” and leaned into the “what is the feeling we want to portray”. Good, Proud, Authority and Fragile yet Powerful.
We started to dive deep into the story and in the final concept, the painting had become a world of its own. Wonderfully absurd, peaceful and beautiful. However, this painting does not apologize. It is as strong as the legends under the northern lights that fire up the skies.
None of this would have happened without a collector willing to trust the process and let the idea grow into something bigger than either of us originally imagined.
